'Writing for Publication Pre-Conference Workshop: An Intensive Writing Retreat'

RETREAT OBJECTIVES:

Each participant will:

  • assess own needs in developing publication skills and seek assistance in developing strength in these areas

  • develop a manuscript for submission to a selected journal

  • learn about effective writing for publication techniques

  • receive feedback and be able to incorporate it into your manuscript

  • prepare effective feedback and constructively share it with a peer

  • prepare to receive feedback through the peer review process

 

Features of the retreat:

  • Periods of uninterrupted writing time

  • Feedback from mentors

  • Feedback after the event

  • Crossover learning - Focus on writing skills; Focus on editing

 

Pre- retreat requirements:

  • Prior to workshop and no later than Friday 12 September, please submit an outline of your proposed paper, along with the name of your target journal

  • One week prior to the retreat (by 15th October), please submit a draft of your manuscript

 

What to bring:

  • Please bring a laptop with your draft manuscript loaded on it – if you do not have a laptop to bring with you, paper and pen will be sufficient.

  • Bring reference material for your paper (hard or soft copies)

  • A clear mind ready to focus!

 

A TYPICAL DAY ON RETREAT

8.00-8.30am                   Arrival and set up

8.30 -10.00am                Individual mentor feedback

10.00 -12.30pm              Uninterrupted writing time (morning tea available on Foyer between 10:20 – 10:45am)

12.30 -1.15pm                Lunch

1.15 -2.00pm                  Scholarly Writing presentation

2.00-5.30pm                   Uninterrupted writing time with guidance as needed (afternoon tea available)

                                        Print one copy of draft paper for feedback (this will be provided by the end of the following week)
